Who we are
Beyond Anime Character is an iOS app for reading character breakdowns, writing notes, and running short archetype quizzes. It is developed by Aldhelm Lockewood.

No accounts
The app does not create user accounts, social profiles, or public leaderboards. You are not asked for your name, email, phone number, or payment details to use the editorial library.
Information we store
To keep your progress available across launches and to compute personal statistics, the app may send an anonymous snapshot of local activity to our server. That snapshot is stored under an anonymous device identifier (a random UUID kept in the iOS Keychain), not under your real identity.
Depending on how you use the app, a snapshot may include:
- A display name you type in Profile (optional, local nickname only)
- Reading history: which character pages you opened or marked as read, bookmark flags, and scroll depth
- Streak counters and the last read date
- Gauntlet run history: date, subset, deck version, score, and question count
- Notes and takes you write (title, character/series labels, archetype, trait scores, thesis, evidence, draft flag). Cover photos stay on the device and are not uploaded
- Your chosen signature archetype
The server derives personal statistics from this history (for example breakdowns read, current and longest streak, takes written, gauntlet run count, best score, and a reading-activity heatmap).
Separately, the same anonymous device identifier is used once to count your signature archetype in an aggregate split, and to record Gauntlet scores in an anonymous average. These aggregates do not include your notes or reading list.
If you grant notification permission, the app registers a push token with Apple Push Notification service through OneSignal so we can send operational alerts. OneSignal stores that token together with the same anonymous device identifier.
How we use this information
- To store your history and statistics on the companion API
- To restore or refresh that snapshot when the app syncs
- To publish anonymous signature-archetype percentages and average Gauntlet scores
- To deliver push notifications you allow
- To operate, debug, and keep the service available
We do not sell personal information. We do not use the history snapshot for advertising, credit decisions, or profiling beyond the in-app stats described above.
Push notifications
If you grant notification permission, the app may register with Apple Push Notification service through OneSignal so we can send operational alerts. You can revoke permission at any time in iOS Settings. Campaigns are sent from the OneSignal dashboard; our companion API does not send push payloads itself.
What stays on your device
Cover images attached to notes, the bundled editorial catalog, and app settings remain on your device. If the network is unavailable, the app continues to work from local data; a failed sync does not delete what you have already written.
Sharing
We do not share device history with other users. Hosting, storage, push delivery (OneSignal / Apple Push Notification service), and infrastructure providers that run api.beyondanimecharacter.online may process the data solely to provide the service. We may disclose information if required by law.
Retention and deletion
History is kept for as long as needed to provide the service for that device identifier. Resetting app data on the device requests deletion of the server-side snapshot for that identifier.
You can also email Aldhelm3Lockewood@icloud.com to ask that stored history for your device be deleted. Because we do not collect an account email, please include enough detail (for example the approximate install date and the anonymous device identifier if you can copy it) so we can locate the record. You may decline or disable push notifications in iOS Settings at any time.
Children
Beyond Anime Character is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided information, contact us and we will delete it.
Security
We use HTTPS for API traffic. The device identifier is a random UUID; it is not your Apple ID. No method of transmission or storage is perfectly secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Changes
We may update this policy from time to time. The “Last updated” date at the top will change when we do. The current version is always published at https://api.beyondanimecharacter.online/privacy.
